You might have had a setback, lost your confidence, or just lost your spirit.  Maybe you are trapped in the expectations of other people, or some rules you set for yourself earlier in life.

However, life is not stagnant. You are either moving forwards or going backwards. Sitting still never really ends up being still, it just becomes ‘falling behind’. And then you don’t like yourself much, and a big vicious cycle begins.

You only have one life. And it is so damn precious. You have a duty to unstick yourself. To get yourself going again. You have to pick yourself up and start moving forward.

Picture a train on its tracks, tootling along happily, its destination very clear. If the train wanted to change that destination, it can’t. Once it’s on the tracks, it has to keep going. Other than a major catastrophe and derailment, it will eventually get to its destination.

It’s not like that for humans. We go off track all the time.

Sometimes life happens, something comes out of the blue and derails us with no warning. A death, a loss, a breakup, a breakdown, a new job, a new family, a new country. Your world suddenly changes, and you lose your way. You don’t know how to operate anymore. You don’t enjoy the things you used to. You can’t get your head around this new life you have been pushed into.

But there is another scenario too. Where you have gone off your tracks, and not even realised. There hasn’t been a big event, no obvious crisis. Slowly over a number of years the weight has crept on, the dreams have diminished, the priorities have been sabotaged, the relationship has soured. It can happen in any number of ways. A creeping realisation sets in, you are no longer satisfied with your life, but you are not entirely sure why. You don’t even know what destination you want anymore, let alone how to find your way there.
